One of Many Milestones

We thought we would never see this day. Seven years ago, I gave birth to Jake 5 weeks before his due date. Unlike my first two childbirths which were unmedicated and Lamaze aided, this 3rd time was an emergency Caesarean delivery. It was because 2 weeks before my 8th month, the ultrasound image of my abdomen indicated that there was no fluid in my placenta. In medical parlance, it was a case of oligohydramnios.

Jake weighed an alarming 2 pounds when he came out! He was so tiny his skin was all wrinkled and looked literally like a bag of bones. I fed him via syringe the whole time he was in the NICU, because his mouth was too tiny to latch on to anything.

At that time, we feared the worst but hoped for the best. We stormed the heavens with our prayers for our little boy while keeping in mind that we were ready for anything...

That was then... Our miracle baby celebrated his 7th birthday this month and graduated from preschool with excellent grades.

    hi bertN: when i was feeding him via syringe, i couldn't think of anything beyond that moment. he seemed fragile. we are still amazed that we are past that now :)

    hi junnie and ethel: jake has caught up very well with his peers it's hard to imagine he was once sooo tiny and in a precarious state. i think we and the rest of the family over-compensated in nurturing him. hehehe.

School and a Mixed Bag of Emotions

Even with the (remaining) 9 year old son at home, doing his usual stuff alternately watching tv, tinkering with his Legos, cutting/ folding/ creating things with paper and playing with the iPad, and making a ruckus all by his lonesome, the house is, weirdly, quiet. I often find myself introspecting... about the nest almost empty now and other similar thoughts. And I struggle to stop myself from wallowing in a mixed bag of emotions. It's not a bad thing, except, I could waste hours doing that. I thought I was totally in control and could dismiss the situation as another milestone, like seeing your child lose his first baby tooth. Nothing a warm hug or an ice cream could not fix. by Linnor When the boys are home, their room doesn't stay as orderly as the pic above.  Mistulang binagyo kapag silang lahat ay nasa loob ng kanilang asul na kwarto. :) Merong nag-gigitara, merong nagko-kompyuter at merong naglalaro ng Lego.  Sa madaling sabi, pag nasa silid sila, talagang di maiiwasan ang pagiging makalat nito.  :P Anyway, at least nasa bahay lang sila at hindi nagbabarkada sa labas. Pero sa totoo lang, after a long day at work or from school, it's always nice to come home to a clean house.  Ang sarap magpahinga sa maayos na kabahayan pagkatapos ng mahabang araw  di ba?
