022719 By Cebu standards, any destination that is more than 20 minutes away from starting point is considered far. However, locals are willing to drive out in search of new places to see, try, or hang out in. After having heard from a friend about a new seafood resto at the South Road Properties (SRP), we decided to go. Food was good. And its location is in this newly completed part of Il Corso along the shore of mainland Cebu facing Mactan Island. Behind the row of dining outlets is a nice mini boardwalk with fountains and a small playground, a breezy place for al fresco meals with a view. It may be a good 35-minute drive from where we live, far by Cebu standards, but we’ll keep visiting this place to try out the restos, check out what’s new or hang and just enjoy the “sea”-nery. https://ift.tt/2XtrnW0 via Tumblr https://ift.tt/2GMONRb

022219 Pa and Ma on Hearts Day… At their age, I easily get worried at the slightest sign of a cough or cold or when they seem to have difficulty doing their regular activities. Imagine my cortisol level last Wednesday when Pa was advised to stay a night at the hospital for observation due to infection. He has been discharged since and a check-up is scheduled for next week. I pray no more health scares like this would happen anytime soon. I pray that we would all be blessed with excellent health and be able to enjoy each other’s company for as long as possible, God-willing. https://ift.tt/2Nqbbk0 via Tumblr https://ift.tt/2U3MEUf

021718 Fresh from Ting Hun… We all happily witnessed the Chinese engagement ceremony of our nephew and his bride-to-be. A Ting Hun symbolizes the acceptance of both the bride and groom to be in each of their families. Although not mandatory in marriage, this is a time-honored Chinese tradition upheld by generations, and is similar to the Filipino “pamamanhikan”. http://bit.ly/2DNlAln via Tumblr http://bit.ly/2Eg4rlQ

021619 Son no. 2 arrived from Manila today. Although son no. 1 is not in the photo, we are all complete for the weekend. The last time all five of us were in one place was during the Christmas holidays. #newnormal http://bit.ly/2SDb4qZ via Tumblr http://bit.ly/2V3tuOf

021419 The Nielson Tower, where Blackbird is, used to be the passenger terminal and the control tower of the airport on the 42 hectare land (now Makati central business district) owned by the Ayala family. The primary runway became Ayala Avenue and the secondary runway, Paseo de Roxas. Interesting historical tidbit from Wikipedia I learned about the place. 021319 Photo was taken on 021019 before flying back to Cebu. It was a packed weekend of being with the son and some friends, dining, and seeing the familiar as well as the places I haven’t been to. These are the only things I love about Manila. After having spent more than half of my life in Cebu with my family, I having taken root. Cebu is my home now and for the last 27 years. Bustling Manila, the beautiful place of my youth which I used to miss, is now just a fling, good only for a short period of enjoyment. http://bit.ly/2ByH2dD via Tumblr http://bit.ly/2DJ68qv

021119 That was a quick get-together with our middle son. Seeing new places, having good meals, hearing mass together and just enjoying each other’s presence surely made for a weekend well-spent. 021019 People tell me to linger when I visit a place, to immerse myself and feel how it is to be a native of the locale. However, friends and family know me as one who will squeeze in as much sightseeing as I can get and not waste time on people-watching, shopping or walking aimlessly. To each his own I guess. With a free weekend after last Friday’s wedding, we went on a road trip to the south. From Alabang, we drove for about an hour to this exotic, Balinese-inspired garden resort. We had enough time to walk around and see the tastefully decorated and well-manicured grounds. The tropical foliage, colored walls with kamala designs and artisan crafted and carved wooden Buddha heads and daybeds reminded me of the movie Eat, Pray, Love. It sort of makes you want to meditate. Though not really Balinese, their buffet lunch spread was filling. I particularly loved the freshly made seafood pesto pasta from their pasta station. After a leisurely lunch, more walking and soaking in nature and t...

020919 So many side stories I don’t even know where to begin… The short of it is coming to Manila for my godchild’s wedding, I forgot to bring some essentials which I thought I have already packed but brought stuff I ended up not using. What a mini disaster. I teetered between booking an appointment with a salon and doing everything myself. I didn’t ask around and since I was clueless in the metro plus I didn’t want to spend, I decided to DIY my makeup which I hope did its job of concealing or highlighting parts of my face correctly instead of the other way around. So here’s the final output. The skirt I bought the day before from @atebytatah (all the way from Katipunan) and hubby’s barong tagalog practically saved the day. http://bit.ly/2SC5d4l via Tumblr http://bit.ly/2GyhaBF

020819 Here for a few days and reunited with our middle son who is based in Manila. Kyle is on his 6th month on the job and he happily regaled us about how he likes what he does. He said he is able to save up a portion of his wages too. My overly protective heart wells up with joy to things like this. Given the choice, I would have wanted all three sons to be based in Cebu, but my helicopter parenting already ceased after high school, for the elder ones at least. Despite the anxiety of being away from them, it was a wise decision to send sons 1 and 2 to Manila for their whole university life. Both managed to prove that they could be let out of the coop. Thank heavens, they are now better prepared for the rigors of living independently. http://bit.ly/2MSIhZn via Tumblr http://bit.ly/2TBo4K5

020419 When I become a senior, God-willing, I will spend my time leisurely walking, doing crafts, learning to paint, or meeting up with family and friends over coffee to reminisce about the old times. Pa and Ma now spend their days at home checking out old family photo albums, talking about what they remember about the people, place and event captured in the photograph and sharing some on facebook for friends and relatives to enjoy. “Ang wedding gown ko libre yan”, “Saan nga ulit ito?”, “Ay si ano yan, buhay pa kaya sya?” “Itong kotse na ito nabenta ng 3000 pesos”. It’s actually amusing listening to them. 😊 http://bit.ly/2WG5OkF via Tumblr http://bit.ly/2MNRzG9
