Shortened Long Weekend

It was originally declared a holiday this Monday so we bought Matt's Cebu plane ticket way in advance. Some of his friends from DLSU and ADMU were also scheduled to spend the long weekend in town. Perfect timing for them as one of their friends was celebrating his birthday.

Well, the holiday has since been recalled at the last minute so the supposed long weekend has been shortened and we were unnecessarily subjected to the additional cost of rebooking fees and fare differences. Ouch.

Anyway.... It shouldn't put a damper on our plans. Any homecoming is always a welcome thing, right?

On Matt's first day back (Friday), he saw some friends, did some errands, bought stuff, had his haircut and met us again for dinner.

At dinner, the one notable thing he mentioned to us was: "Yes! Decent food! No fastfood (or carinderia) for me this time!"

Lol.

Anybody who stays in a dorm would know what food is like in canteens, fastfood restos and local carinderias. I remember hearing one describe dorm life as an airconditioned prison. Hehehe. I'm amused that our son is trying hard to cope and makes do with the meager allowance we send him. So far, so good.

(Not included in pics are the native snacks at Laguna Garden courtesy of cousin Mimi and Aunt Didi, the pasta dinner at Gustavian, and our very own home-cooked meals. :D)

School and a Mixed Bag of Emotions

Even with the (remaining) 9 year old son at home, doing his usual stuff alternately watching tv, tinkering with his Legos, cutting/ folding/ creating things with paper and playing with the iPad, and making a ruckus all by his lonesome, the house is, weirdly, quiet. I often find myself introspecting... about the nest almost empty now and other similar thoughts. And I struggle to stop myself from wallowing in a mixed bag of emotions. It's not a bad thing, except, I could waste hours doing that. I thought I was totally in control and could dismiss the situation as another milestone, like seeing your child lose his first baby tooth. Nothing a warm hug or an ice cream could not fix. by Linnor When the boys are home, their room doesn't stay as orderly as the pic above.  Mistulang binagyo kapag silang lahat ay nasa loob ng kanilang asul na kwarto. :) Merong nag-gigitara, merong nagko-kompyuter at merong naglalaro ng Lego.  Sa madaling sabi, pag nasa silid sila, talagang di maiiwasan ang pagiging makalat nito.  :P Anyway, at least nasa bahay lang sila at hindi nagbabarkada sa labas. Pero sa totoo lang, after a long day at work or from school, it's always nice to come home to a clean house.  Ang sarap magpahinga sa maayos na kabahayan pagkatapos ng mahabang araw  di ba?
